What prints

Each puzzle gets a full US Letter page: the theme at the top, the grid about 6.6 inches wide, and the word list underneath in large type. Easy grids are 10 by 10 with words that only run across (left to right) and down. Medium is 12 by 12 and adds diagonals. Hard is 15 by 15, and words run in all eight directions, backwards included. The answer keys come after the puzzles, two to a page, with each hidden word drawn as a loop and the filler letters printed in gray.

Every word appears in its grid exactly once, so there's no arguing over which copy counts.

Printing for a group

Choose 5 puzzles to get five different grids in one go. With Mixed selected, each one has its own theme. Pick a single theme instead, say Autumn for a fall afternoon or the US states for a geography morning, and you get five grids from that theme with different words in each. Keep the answer pages aside and hand out only the puzzles.

The default set changes every day, so printing on Monday and again on Tuesday gives different puzzles. If you need a second batch the same day, press New set.

Tips for pencil and paper

A highlighter is easier to see than a circled pencil loop, especially on Easy where words sit close together. Cross each word off the list as you go. If you get stuck, the techniques on our word search tips page work the same on paper: hunt for the rarest letter in the word first, and look for double letters.
