How to play, in one minute
Farkle is a dice game for two or more players. On your turn you roll six dice, set aside the ones that score, and either roll the rest for more points or bank what you have. Roll nothing that scores and you farkle: the whole turn's points are gone.
- Roll. Tap Roll. Every turn starts with all six dice.
- Set aside scoring dice. Tap at least one die that scores: a 1 is 100, a 5 is 50, three of a kind is 100 times the number (three 1s are 1,000). Bigger sets, a 1-to-6 straight and three pairs score more. The line under the dice tells you what your pick is worth.
- Roll on or bank. Roll the dice you didn't set aside to add to the turn, or bank the turn total into your score. If all six dice have scored, that's hot dice: you roll all six again.
- Farkle. A roll with nothing that scores ends your turn and you lose the turn total. Your banked score is safe.
- Win by reaching 10,000. Everyone else then gets one last turn to beat you.
By default you need 500 in one turn before your first bank counts. The full rules are on our how to play farkle page, and every combination is on the farkle scoring chart.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no download and no limit on games. If ads ever appear to keep the site running, they'll stay off the table.
Can I play farkle with a friend online?
Yes, one on one. Tap Play a friend and send the link it gives you by text, email or chat. The game starts when your friend opens it, on a phone or a computer. There's no sign-up and no chat. The dice are rolled on our server, so neither player can see a roll coming. If either of you closes the page, opening it again picks up the same game. A friend game with no moves for 14 days is deleted.
How many players can play?
Against the computer, you can play one, two or three computer players: pick the number in Settings. A friend game is for the two of you.
How good is the computer?
Pick Strong or Easy in Settings. The strong player works from a table of the exact expected points for every turn total and number of dice left, built from every possible roll, and it banks when rolling on is worth less on average. In the last round it keeps rolling until it's ahead. The easy player keeps every scoring die and banks at 300. In our test the strong player won 2,867 of 4,000 games against the easy one.
What are hot dice?
When every one of your dice has scored, you pick all six up and roll again, keeping your turn total. It can happen more than once in a turn. You can also bank instead.
Is farkle the same game as Zilch, 10000 or Greed?
Mostly, yes. Wikipedia's farkle article and Game On Family's rules both list Zilch, Ten Thousand (or 10000) and Greed among the game's other names. The scoring changes from family to family, which is why our Settings let you change the table to match the way you play.
Can I change the rules?
Yes. Under Settings, House rules lets you set the opening minimum (none, 500 or 1,000), the straight (1,500 or 2,500), three pairs (1,500 or 750), how four, five and six of a kind score, a penalty for three farkles in a row, and whether everyone gets a last turn. Changes start with your next game.
Can I take back a die I set aside?
Yes, until you roll or bank. Tap a die again to put it back. Once the next roll is on the table, the dice you set aside are locked, the same as at a real table.
Is there a hint button?
Yes. After a roll it marks the dice the strong computer would set aside and tells you whether to roll on or bank, with the average points behind that choice. You get 6 hints per game, and asking again about the same roll doesn't use another one.
